The Wilsonville CDC is at a crossroads. The current landowners have agreed to keep the space available through September 2027, but only if an independent nonprofit can be formed to assume operations in time. Without swift action to establish that organization, 75+ children will lose their care and 20+ dedicated educators will lose their jobs permanently.
Childcare and preschool providers in the region already have years-long waitlists, particularly for infants and toddlers. Some parents will be forced to reduce their hours, change jobs, or leave the workforce altogether. The 50+ children currently on the CDC waitlist will never have the opportunity to enroll.
This closure doesn't simply shift long-tenured educators elsewhere. There is no comparable program. Many will leave the field entirely, representing a net loss of both expertise and workforce training capacity at a time when Oregon's early childhood workforce is already critically strained.
